Avatar Commission – Clipped Wings

Online avatar commission for use in an online world as artwork, given free reign to use my imagination based on what I knew of the individual concerned. Rendered in Poser, postwork in Photoshop.

Face it

Giftart I created for a friend online a while back, deliberately aiming for a high level of photo-realism.  The image was based on my friend’s own online persona, and I’m told my interpretation was well received Rendered in Poser, postwork in Photoshop.

Eagle and Flag

A nice patriotic render for people. This is a composite image, the eagle was created within Poser, then imported across to Vue where it was rendered against a sky also created inside Vue. The image was masked to separate the eagle from the sky, then the entire thing was taken into Photoshop for compositing with a stock flag image. The Eagle mask was overlaid over the top to bring it into focus, with some layering tricks done to blend the images together.

Stormbringer

Another combined render, doing the initial human figure building and posing in Poser, building the landscape in Vue, then taking the Poser scene across to Vue to for the final rendering. The magic effects were added using Photoshop in post.  The resulting image is after the fold.

Watching The Seas

Composed entirely in Vue, a nice, simple, seascape render – a lonely outpost high above the ocean, dark angry skies in the distance. A different test version I did had a little metablob space-ship sat on the landing pad, but I decided against it in the end.

Dark Harbor

After the successful results of the Hitch-Hiker render, I wanted to play around more with lights. For the most part, up until then my concern with lighting was getting the overall scene lights right.  I’d used the point-lights when I rendered the Tumbler from the Batman movies as well, but I wanted to see what else I could do. So back to Vue, but this time with an entirely Vue-based setup for a castle at night style scene.

Dragon Cave

By now, you’ll be used to my sense of humor. This actually started life as trying to have the dragon comforting the human for no specific reason, but as it developed it ended up with her head’s position reminding me of searching for contact lenses than anything else, and so – the image twisted a little Of course, I’ve not really said whose contact lens is missing …

Dragon Family

Some more mythological creatures, this time Dragons – a mother and child. It gave me another opportunity to add “human” like qualities to a non-human critter – in this case, to mimic a human baby sucking its thumb, with a (very) protective mother hovering over it. This is another combination render, with the figures being taken into Poser at first to set up and pose, then brought across into Vue for the landscape and final renders. Image after the fold.

Gleaming Graphite – Moonbathed Graphite

Another one of my Gleaming Graphite series. Looking at the way I created the “skin” for the figures inside Poser’s Material Room, it has that oily gray quality with reflections that come out so muted. So I set myself a challenge to try and light the scene in such a way to make it look like the title suggests – moon bathing – the image is after the fold, how do you think it came out?

Gleaming Graphite – Naked Steel Rain

Given my affinity for transhumanistic themes, it’s perhaps unsurprising that I enjoy going diving into the depths of Poser’s Material Room to play with textures and settings. I really liked the way the Graphite series is coming out – best of all, even minor changes inside the Material Room can have a majot effect to the look and feel of the finished render. It’s kind of amusing as well in some ways, though.  I’ve had this image flagged as being “Adult – Displays Nudity” in the past, even though there’s no display of any genitalia at all. Since the concept … Continue reading

Never Pick Up Hitch Hikers

Even though I’m not using the super-duper humongous level kit that a major animation studio for the movies uses (donations would be gratefully accepted though ), it’s still possible for me to use the same level of effects for single-frame images. An example of the dilemma this causes is after the fold. I’ve been reading Darth Mojo’s blog, and in it he once discussed how the Battlestar Galactica FX crew had lit up one of the ships they rendered/animated for the series.  I decided to give the methods he discussed a try. The first image was the one I had … Continue reading

Wasteland Wench – Ruins

The Wasteland Wench in her natural element, waiting patiently for someone to play with after the fold. I have to admit, I do enjoy the Wasteland Wench.  She and my Red Witch tend to lead to all kinds of interesting imagery, and have an elegance about both of them. Like the characters in my novels, they’ve both pretty much come to have their own personalities in my mind’s eye that nudges the result of artwork I do around them.

Wasteland Wench – At The River

My “Wasteland Wench” likes to get around – Either she’s in the desert, or in deserted ruins, or taking a break in the relative paradise of the view here. This is another of my combined-applications pieces.  I usually have a good idea in my head of how I want the image to come out.  So I start by building the Wench figure inside Poser, as well as setting up the pose itself. Then I switch to Vue and create the terrain I have in mind.  Once I have that pretty well set, I bring the saved Poser scene file into … Continue reading

I'm too sexy

My sense of humor tends to get the better of me, but equally often something I’m working on will just scream out a connection that is both perverse and hilarious at the same time (such as Lounge Lizard). This is one of those times, while working on troll imagery for Ken St Andre.  So grab yourself a cup of coffee, take a deep swig and check out after the fold.

Lounge Lizard

I’ve always found H.R. Giger’s artwork to be absolutely beautiful and sensuous, even though some of it can be rather disquieting at the same time. Like many others, I was first exposed to his work through the movie Alien, and that particular form has stuck in my head ever since. So over time, I’ve built a reputation for artwork that’s best described as “Nekkid tattooed redheaded vampiric gynoid chicks with heavy weaponry in compromising positions with Giger aliens” Hey, it’s a niche Given my sense of humor … well, take a look

Pinup Girls (NSFW)

OK, so I admit it, i have a strange yet subtly perverse sense of humor – A twist on Hellraiser’s Pinhead after the fold. Tagged as Not Safe For Work due to nudity – even though you can’t actually see anything, really!
